Electric guitar chords are one of many unexpected surprises in the soulful original songs performed by Nashville’s Sarah Siskind. This jazzy, blues, folk singer is a rising star on the music scene, and is traveling to Pagosa Springs to perform her unique blend of sounds on Friday, March 6 at 7:30pm at Pagosa Pub Works Brewpub — no cover charge.

Siskind’s music is both written and performed by the artist, and is a complex mix of sounds from folk, rock, jazz, blues, and country music.  Continued...

Siskind’s latest album, “Say It Louder”, is an artful blend of sound, lyrics, and voice, and is available on all the major music and social networking sites, as well as mainstream book and music retail sites. This writer would describe Siskind’s body of work as a sensitive, sensual musical interpretation of the human experience, and well worth listening to.

Siskind's bold melodies, strong vocal performances and emotional depth have brought her widespread respect in the  acoustic, pop and rock music fields, in Nashville and beyond. Top-tier singers and rising talent across the country, including Alison Krauss and Union Station, Randy Travis, the Infamous Stringdusters and April Verch have recorded her songs. Two of Siskind’s compositions—“Goodbye Is All We Have” and “Simple Love”—have been hit singles for Krauss, the latter even leading to a GRAMMY nomination.

Siskind, born and raised in North Carolina, was the progeny of two professional musicians.

“My parents were full-time musicians in the 1970s and I grew up surrounded by music. It was always in our home, we traveled with music, and I started my first piano lessons at the age of four!” Asked to describe the essence of her musical style, Sarah replies “Alternative rock-soul embodies most of it. Some folk elements too, and my electric guitar adds an unexpected rock element.”

Sarah Siskind’s connection to Pagosa Springs began with her past participation in the Four Corner’s Folk Festival. Her husband, Travis Book, also a professional musician, has spent lots of time in Durango, in addition to having good friends living in Pagosa Springs.

When asked how much does Sarah know about Pagosa, her reply was “I love performing in Pagosa at the Folk Festival, the backdrop to our stage is an incredible view of the San Juans..."

"Aesthetically Pagosa blows me away, and the hot springs are wonderful.” Siskind went on to say that although she has already selected her song choice for the Pub Works performance, she always goes with the flow of the audience during a concert, and quite often switches things up during a live gig.

Pagosa Pub Works Brewpub is located at 165 North Pagosa Boulevard, just two block north of the Highway 160 intersection.  There is no cover for this evening of music with Susan Siskind.
